My dog ate onions. What do I do?

  1. Call your vet, especially if your dog ate more than a bite or eats onion often.
  2. Tell them your dog's weight, how much they ate and roughly when.
  3. Don't make your dog throw up unless a vet tells you to.

Signs to watch for: Weakness, pale gums, fast breathing, reddish urine and low energy, often a few days later.

Why?

Onions contain compounds that break down red blood cells and can cause anemia. The damage can build up over a few days, so a dog may look fine at first.
