Can dogs eat cheese?

Caution

A little is fine.

Cheese is high in fat, and some dogs can't handle dairy well. Skip blue cheese and anything with garlic or onion.

My dog ate cheese. What do I do?

  1. Keep it to a small treat. Watch for an upset stomach.
  2. If you're not sure how much they ate, call your vet and describe it.

How to share cheese safely

Small cubes of plain cheddar or mozzarella, or low-fat cottage cheese. Great for hiding pills.

Why?

Many dogs are lactose intolerant to some degree, and fatty foods can trigger stomach trouble or pancreatitis in some dogs.
